Photography by: Deconstructed Beauty
J. was a model for several years before the pressure of being unhealthily thin with perfectly pedicured nails and hair with no roots or split ends finally got to her. Out of this frustration the deconstructed beauty projekt was born. First she collaborated with photographers and did work where she did destructive things to her face while asking the question "am i still pretty?"
Eventually she picked up the camera herself. Her work focuses on identity, politics, and society's role in who become as people. She has exhibited work in the juried shows Dirty Detroit and the Seattle Erotic Arts Festival and was a part of the Traveling Erotic Art Show (NY, SF, FL, Chicago, Seattle). Her films have shown in festivals in New England, New York, and Los Angeles.

Artwork by: Miriam Wiederhorn
Painting is a vehicle for ideas I could never articulate. There
areterra-cotta ideas, emotions, wishes and dreams can only be
communicate through a visual format. My art is a primal scream, a
siren's song and a lover's serenade all blended in equal parts. Initially my works were rendered on terra-cotta flowers pots.
Painting is a ritual act, like magic; pigments mix and images emerged
from the ether. Early in my pot painting period I decided to return to
school to broaden my skill base.
Last Spring I applied to and was accepted by the Corcoran school of
Art and Design, where I am currently working towards a MAT in art
education. My studies at Corcoran have significantly impacted my
work.
In October 07, I switched painting mediums from acrylics to oils.
This switch was encouraged by my painting professor Bill Newman. The
versatility of this medium is enticing, seductive and provides
unexplored directions for my work.
